What an awesome weekend I had…I had some friends in town so I took them down by the river side…The East River that is.

We headed over to Williamsburg to check out the new hip, talk of the town neighborhood.

While there we feasted on many local delicacies, from natural Kelvin slushies, DuMont Burgers and slow cooked beef brisket sandwiches. We indulged until our bellies were busting at the seams.

Also going on down by the river this weekend was the 1st Annual Hot Sauce Expo.

With all the new shops, restaurants and building in Williamsburg one would barely recognize it from the past.

Helping Victims of Sandy

Hello My Friends-

Below you will find a link to a Hurricane Sandy campaign that I am working on. Please check it out and help if you can.

These people really need your help. With your donations we will purchase blankets, warm clothes and pampers.

To make matters worse, we have another storm headed our way.

Thank you in advance for your help.

God Bless

Nikki

These pictures will speak for themselves.

Check out the Hook…

Today’s photos are of my ride to Fairway in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

I will be going back soon to take more shots of this cool little neighborhood.

A little info on Red Hook…

Red Hook in Brooklyn is a surprising neighborhood tucked along an old industrial waterfront.

It’s chock-a-block with refreshing views of both the water and southern tip of Manhattan, dedicated local residents, and interesting venues. Red Hook makes for a great day trip from Manhattan for tourists and visitors, and an interesting place for Brooklyn residents to explore.

Red Hook in Brooklyn is more than your typical Brooklyn neighborhood. It’s a work in progress, defined by a mixture of light industry, open space, residential enclaves and a still palpable sense of urban pioneering. The population density here is lower than in most of Manhattan, so it can seem, by comparison, very quiet.

Soul Summit…

The Soul Summit Music Festival is a weekly Sunday event that takes place in Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoons, 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. The Festival is always free and open to the public. The Festival showcases artist of various artistic backgrounds.

Over the past TEN years, the Festival has become an institution developing a loyal following of music fans that bring the hills of Fort Greene Park alive with families, food, dancing and community love. The festival provides the backdrop for access to music, networking opportunities and other outdoor activities. Over the years, Soul Summit Music festival has become one of the most anticipated outdoor events in New York City. The festival has successfully created a hub of activity in the immediate community and beyond with weekly visitors from all over the tri-state area and internationally.

This weekend they had an outdoor dance party at Ft. Greene Park in Brooklyn, NY. This event has been going on for over 10 years at the Ft. Greene Park, but over the last couple of years they have run into major opposition from the “new folks to the area”. Mind you this is event has been here for 10 years without incident. If they have there way Soul Summit will be no more.

Soul Summit draws people from all walks of life. The young and the old. Straight, gay and everything in between.

For those of you who would like to check it out, come on down to either Ft. Greene Park or out to Coney Island and get your dance on.

Greenpoint Brooklyn….

Greenpoint is another neighborhood that has also gone through a major transformation over the years. And still is.

Lovely Tree Lined Blocks

Pool Party and Cookout Brooklyn Style

Greenpoint is one of Brooklyn’s hottest neighborhoods, thanks to an influx of young, college-educated newcomers who are transforming the Williamsburg-Greenpoint-Bushwick section of Brooklyn.

Local Watering Hole

Greenpoint is the northernmost neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. It is bordered on the southwest by Williamsburg at the Bushwick inlet, on the southeast by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and East Williamsburg, on the north by Newtown Creek and Long Island City, Queens at the Pulaski Bridge, and on the west by the East River. Originally farmland (many of the farm owners’ family names, e.g., Meserole and Calyer, still name the streets), the residential core of Greenpoint was built on parcels divided during the 19th century, with rope factories and lumber yards lining the East River to the west, while the northeastern section along the Newtown Creek through East Williamsburg became an industrial maritime reach. There has been an effort to reclaim not only the rezoned Greenpoint/Williamsburg East River waterfront for recreational use, but to extend that effort to include a continuous promenade into the Newtown Creek area.

Unique and Different…

While out and about in Brooklyn I ran across two people that were eye catchers for sure. You have to admit these two are definitely unique and different. Maybe even a little strange.

Tree Man…

Now that is a lot of hair

People like myself were stopping and taking pictures in amazement.

This shot of the two of them together is priceless.

As my mama always says only in New York!!!!!
